The Brane Audio app is where you change how your Brane X behaves. This guide follows the menus in the speaker’s settings. To reach any of them, open your speaker in the Brane Audio app, then go to the menu named in the heading. Available settings can vary with your firmware version and app version.
What you need
Speaker settings such as sound, lights, name and Soundbar Mode work over Bluetooth, so your phone only needs to be connected to the speaker. Wireless grouping, firmware updates and Alexa need the speaker on Wi-Fi. See Connect to Wi-Fi.
Ping Speaker
Ping Speaker is at the top of the settings list. It makes the speaker play a sound and flash its lights, so you can tell which speaker you have selected. This is useful when you own more than one.
Renaming your speaker
- Open your speaker in the Brane Audio app.
- Tap the pencil icon next to the speaker’s name at the top of the screen.
- Type the new name.
- Tap return, or tap outside the name field, to save it.
If you named the speaker in Apple’s setup screens or the Apple Home app, the Brane Audio app locks the name to avoid conflicts. A lock icon appears where the pencil would be. Rename the speaker in the Apple Home app instead. A factory reset removes the lock. To rename a group, see Play across multiple speakers.
Network
- Connect to Network: join the speaker to a Wi-Fi network. See Connect to Wi-Fi.
- Saved Networks: see every network the speaker has joined and delete the ones you no longer want.
The Network menu also shows the speaker’s IPv4 address, IPv6 address and Wi-Fi MAC address.
Bluetooth
- Auto-Connect: on by default. When on, the speaker tries to connect to the most recent Bluetooth device when it starts up.
- Periodic Retry: off by default, and available only while Auto-Connect is on. The speaker keeps trying to reconnect to the most recent device after it powers on, so it connects once that device becomes available. This helps if you use the speaker with a turntable or a TV over Bluetooth and want to avoid pairing again. It only retries while there is no active Bluetooth connection and no audio playing.
- Saved Devices: see every device the speaker has paired with and remove any you do not want.
The menu also shows the speaker’s Bluetooth MAC address. See Connect over Bluetooth.
Sound Settings
- Bass: a slider with three levels. Choose Low (−4 dB), Medium (0 dB) or High (+4 dB). A new or factory-reset speaker uses High. If yours plays with a different bass level, press the Bass button on the speaker to check it and pick the one you want. See Control Bar buttons.
- Stereo Enhancement: a toggle with a level slider and an info button. It adjusts the apparent separation between the left and right channels. A higher value gives a wider soundstage with more separation. A lower value gives a more focused sound. It is set to 0 by default.
If you set the bass to a custom level in EQ, Sound Settings shows a note that changing Bass there overrides your current EQ settings. The note links to EQ.
EQ
The EQ has five sliders, one for each band. It shows a preset name, which reads Standard when nothing is changed, and a Reset link. Each band can be set from −16 dB to +5 dB. The sliders are centered at these frequencies:
- 47 Hz. This band starts at +4 dB, which matches the High bass level.
- 188 Hz, starting at 0 dB.
- 750 Hz, starting at 0 dB.
- 3 kHz, starting at 0 dB.
- 12 kHz, starting at 0 dB.
Stereo Enhancement is in Sound Settings, not EQ.
Input Options
Soundbar Mode
Soundbar Mode (previously called AUX Passthrough) reduces delay for sources connected to the AUX port, such as a TV, a computer or an instrument. It is off by default. It only applies while the speaker is receiving audio through the AUX port, so you can leave it on without affecting other connection types. See Use Soundbar Mode.
Max Volume
Max Volume appears when Soundbar Mode is on. It sets the maximum volume for AUX audio. In Soundbar Mode the volume is set at the source, so Max Volume decides how loud the speaker is when the source is at 100%. It starts at 75%. You can raise it, but a higher setting can let white noise (hiss) through. Adjust it while the source plays at your usual listening volume.
Voice Assistant
Set up Alexa here. See Set up Alexa.
LED Brightness
Use the Brightness slider to choose how bright the lights on the front are. The brighter levels dim to the lowest level after about eight seconds and brighten again when something changes.
Speaker Language
Choose the language for the speaker’s spoken prompts: English (US), French, German or Spanish (Spain). This does not change Alexa’s language.
Accessibility
Turn Accessibility Mode on or off. It changes how the touch buttons behave and turns on additional voice prompts. See Accessibility Mode.
Firmware
The Firmware menu shows the Firmware Version and the Firmware Publish Date, with Check for Update. The speaker must be on Wi-Fi to update. See Update your speaker’s firmware.
Advanced Options
- Auto Update Firmware: on by default. The speaker checks about once a week at most.
- Only Idle Updates: off by default. When on, automatic updates wait until the speaker has been idle for about two minutes.
- Auto Upload Logs and Log Uploads (Push Logs to Server): share diagnostic logs from the speaker to help support. Both are off by default.
The other options in Advanced Options are for use with Brane Audio support.
Advanced Settings
Voice Announcements
When on, all voice announcements play. When off, most announcements are silenced, including the battery level the speaker announces when it powers on. The ones that still play are those you trigger by interacting with the speaker, such as asking for the battery level or starting Bluetooth pairing mode. While Voice Announcements is off, the Bass button only changes the bass level when music is playing. See Voice prompts and sounds.
Park RAD on Idle
The RAD is the Repel-Attract Driver, the bass driver. It is off by default, so the speaker stays pressurized while it is powered on. When you turn it on, the RAD depressurizes and parks itself after 5 minutes idle. Starting playback launches it again, with reduced bass until it finishes pressurizing. Parking reduces power draw, so this setting matters most if you leave the speaker plugged in and turned on.
Touch Controls
Touch Controls turns the touch buttons on and off. Turn them off in public or around water that could splash the speaker. The setting stays through power cycles, so make sure the speaker is on your network or paired over Bluetooth before you turn the buttons off. If the buttons are off and you cannot reach the speaker in the app, see Control Bar buttons for how to turn them back on.
Speaker Details
This menu shows the Product Model, Serial Number, Firmware Version, Wi-Fi MAC Address and Bluetooth MAC Address. The Firmware Version, Wi-Fi MAC Address and Bluetooth MAC Address each have a details link. Brane Audio support may send you here, and it sits at the bottom of the settings list.
Groups
Groups have their own screen in the app. To create one, open Groups, tap Create New Group and select the speakers on your network. The group screen has a Party / Stereo selector at the top and the list of speakers in the group. In Party, every speaker in the group plays both the left and right channels. In Stereo, each speaker has a slider that sets which channel it plays. Tap the pencil icon to rename the group or change its members. To end a group, tap End Group or swipe the group to the left on the main Groups page, and its speakers work on their own again. A group holds up to eight speakers, and grouping needs every speaker on the same Wi-Fi network. See Play across multiple speakers.
Streaming
Streaming points you to Spotify.
Reset Speaker
Reset Speaker shows the instructions for how to factory reset the speaker. It does not reset the speaker by itself. See Factory reset your speaker for the steps and what a reset erases.
Resources tab
The app has three tabs along the bottom: the speaker list, Groups and Resources. Resources holds Product Warranty (Warranty Registration opens braneaudio.com/register), Data & Privacy, Legal, Help & Contact and App Info. Help & Contact has the Product Support email, support@braneaudio.com, a link to the Help Center and Submit Support Ticket.
Still stuck? Go to Resources > Help & Contact in the app, or contact Brane Audio support.
