Update your speaker's firmware

Updated Oct 15, 2026

In this article

Firmware is the software inside your Brane X. Updates add features and fixes, and your speaker can install them automatically. This article covers automatic updates, how to check by hand and what to do if an update fails.

Automatic updates

Updates need the speaker on Wi-Fi. New speakers have Auto Update Firmware turned on. The speaker looks for an update about once a week at most. To change it, open your speaker in the Brane Audio app and go to Firmware > Advanced Options > Auto Update Firmware.

If you also turn on Only Idle Updates in the same menu, the speaker waits until it has not played any audio for about two minutes before it checks for an update, so an update is less likely to interrupt music.

Check for an update yourself

  1. Plug the speaker in to wall power. We recommend this before every update.
  2. Make sure the speaker is connected to Wi-Fi. It shows as “Online” on its card in the speaker list.
  3. Open your speaker in the Brane Audio app.
  4. If a Wi-Fi prompt appears, follow it to connect the speaker to your network.
  5. Go to Firmware. The page shows the Firmware Version and the Firmware Publish Date. Choose Check for Update, and start the update from there if one is available.

A speaker that is connected only over Bluetooth cannot receive updates, even though the app can change its settings that way. Connect it to Wi-Fi and keep automatic updates on.

What happens during an update

  • A solid yellow light shows on the front of the speaker while it updates.
  • When the download is done, the speaker restarts on its own, usually once it is idle. Do not worry if it turns off and on.
  • When the yellow light turns off, your speaker is on the newest version.

A new speaker may not have the latest firmware. A few moments after you connect it to Wi-Fi the first time, it starts updating by itself.

If the update fails

A red light that shows for five seconds means the update did not complete. Try these in order:

  1. Check that the speaker is connected to Wi-Fi and close to your router.
  2. Plug the speaker in to wall power.
  3. Check for the update again from the Firmware menu in the app.
  4. If it still fails, restart the speaker with its power button on the back and try once more.

Still failing? Contact support and mention the red light. See What the lights mean for every light.

Share diagnostic logs

Firmware > Advanced Options has Auto Log Uploads and Log Uploads, which send diagnostic logs from the speaker to Brane Audio to help investigate a problem. Both are off by default. The other options in Advanced Options are for use with Brane Audio support.

Still stuck? In the Brane Audio app, go to Resources > Help & Contact, or contact Brane Audio support.
