A factory reset returns your Brane X to the state it was in when it left the box. Use it as a last step when a speaker will not behave after other fixes, or before you pass it on.
What a reset does
- It erases your settings and saved data, including saved Wi-Fi networks and paired Bluetooth devices.
- It removes an AirPlay password and a speaker name locked by Apple setup.
- The speaker restarts as a new speaker, ready to be set up again.
Before you start
- Plug the speaker in to wall power.
- Plan for about 15 minutes. Do not unplug or turn off the speaker while it runs.
Reset the speaker
- Turn the speaker on and wait until it has finished starting up.
- Press and hold both volume buttons (the two buttons in the middle of the Control Bar) together.
- Keep holding. After about 10 seconds the speaker begins a spoken countdown: “Count down to factory reset, in 3... 2... 1...” There are about two seconds between each step.
- Keep holding until the speaker says “Factory reset initiated.” Then let go. From first touch to this point takes about 15 seconds.
Cancel the reset
To stop during the countdown, let go of the buttons before you hear “Factory reset initiated.” The speaker says “Factory reset aborted” and nothing is erased.
While it runs
A yellow-orange light shows on the front of the speaker while the reset is in progress. The speaker restarts during the process, continues the reset after turning back on, and the light turns off when it is finished.
Because the reset erased its paired devices, your phone has to pair with it again. Remove the speaker from your phone’s Bluetooth settings if it is still listed there, then follow Set up your Brane X from the Bluetooth step.
If you hear a message
- “Factory reset already in progress”: a reset is already running. Wait for it to finish.
- “Factory reset blocked on firmware update”: the speaker is installing an update. Wait for the yellow light to turn off, then try again.
