Voice prompts and sounds

In this article

Your Brane X tells you what it is doing with short spoken prompts and tones. This guide lists them by what you were doing. Whenever a prompt plays, music briefly dips in volume so the prompt is easy to hear, then returns to normal.

Bluetooth

  • “Bluetooth pairing mode”: pairing mode started.
  • “Bluetooth connected”: a device has connected. On firmware 2.1 and later, the prompt no longer reads out the device name.
  • “Bluetooth disconnected”: the device has disconnected.
  • A short tone: pairing mode ended.

Wi-Fi

  • “Wi-Fi ready to configure”: Wi-Fi setup mode started.
  • “Wi-Fi configured”: the speaker joined your network.
  • A short tone: Wi-Fi setup mode ended without joining a network.

Power-on announcements

When you turn the speaker on, it may announce:

  • “Battery,” followed by the percentage, in 5% steps.
  • The bass level: “Bass low” or “Bass medium.” On firmware 2.1 and later, “Bass high” is not announced because it is the default.
  • “Custom EQ,” if you changed the equalizer beyond the three bass levels.

These are skipped if audio is playing when the speaker starts, and after a restart for an update or reset. The “Wi-Fi ready to configure” announcement still plays after a reset.

Turn announcements off

  1. Open your speaker in the Brane Audio app.
  2. Go to Advanced Settings and turn off Voice Announcements.

With Voice Announcements on, all announcements play. With it off, most announcements are silenced, including the battery level the speaker announces when it powers on. The ones that still play are those you trigger by interacting with the speaker, such as asking for the battery level or starting Bluetooth pairing mode.

While Voice Announcements is off, the Bass button only changes the bass level when music is playing.

Bass, battery and volume

  • “Bass low,” “Bass medium” or “Bass high”: you pressed Bass to hear or change the level.
  • “EQ reset”: you reset the equalizer by holding Bass.
  • “Battery,” followed by the percentage: you pressed both volume buttons.
  • A short tone: you changed the volume while nothing was playing, or you reached the loudest or quietest setting.

Groups

  • A short tone: the speaker was added to or removed from a group.

Power and safety

  • A short tone: the speaker is turning off or restarting. It is not played before an update restart.
  • “Battery low shutdown”: the battery ran out, so the speaker turned itself off.
  • “High temperature shutdown”: the speaker got too hot and turned itself off.
  • “Buttons disabled”: you held the microphone button and disabled the Control Bar.

See Why your speaker turned itself off.

Factory reset

  • “Count down to factory reset, in 3... 2... 1...” then “Factory reset initiated.”
  • “Factory reset aborted”: you let go before it started.
  • “Factory reset already in progress” or “Factory reset blocked on firmware update”: see Factory reset your speaker.

Alexa

If you say “Alexa” or press the Alexa button before the speaker is set up, it says to open the Brane Audio app to set up the voice assistant. See Set up Alexa.

Prompt language

Open your speaker in the Brane Audio app and go to Speaker Language to choose English (US), French, German or Spanish (Spain) for the speaker’s own voice. See Speaker settings in the Brane Audio app.
