Set up Alexa

Brane X has Alexa Built-in. You set it up once in the Brane Audio app, then talk to the speaker or tap a button to use it.

Set up Alexa

1. Make sure the speaker is on and connected to Wi-Fi. Alexa does not work over Bluetooth alone.
2. Open your speaker in the Brane Audio app.
3. Go to Voice Assistant.
4. Follow the prompts to connect your Amazon account.

Before Alexa is set up, saying “Alexa” or pressing the Alexa button makes the speaker tell you to open the app.

Talk to Alexa

• Say “Alexa,” then your request. For example: “Alexa, play jazz.”
• Or press the Alexa button, the last button on the Control Bar, to start without a wake word (tap to talk).
• The Alexa light shows what is happening. See What the lights mean.

Turn the microphones off

Press the microphone button. When the red light on top is on, the microphones are off and no sound reaches the speaker’s processor. Alexa cannot hear you, and pressing the Alexa button shows a red error light.

Music and audio from Alexa

Services that work through Alexa

Ask Alexa for music from Amazon Music, Audible, Kindle Books, Deezer, iHeartRadio, Pandora, SiriusXM and TuneIn.

Services that do not

Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Tidal, Wondery and JioSaavn do not play through Alexa on Brane X. You can still play them from your phone over Bluetooth or AirPlay. Apple Podcasts, for example, plays over AirPlay.

For multi-room playback, use speaker groups in the Brane Audio app. For sound adjustments, use the equalizer in the app.

Alarms, timers and Do Not Disturb

• Stop an alarm or timer by pressing the Alexa button or saying “Alexa, stop.”
• Alarms have their own volume, which cannot be silenced. Change it in the Alexa app, or press the volume buttons on the speaker while the alarm sounds. Alarms can also rise gradually over one minute if you turn that on in the Alexa app.
• Do Not Disturb can be turned on by voice or in the Alexa app. It holds back notifications and is off by default.

Language

Alexa on Brane X currently supports English (US). Alexa’s language is separate from the speaker’s own prompts, which you set in the Brane Audio app.
