The Brane X has a five-band equalizer (EQ) in the Brane Audio app. Use it to tune the sound to your room, your music or your taste. This article shows where to find it, what each band does and how to reset it.
What you need
The EQ is in the Brane Audio app, and it works over Bluetooth, so your phone only needs to be connected to the speaker. Wi-Fi is not required. See Connect over Bluetooth.
Open the EQ
- Open the Brane Audio app.
- Tap your speaker in the speaker list.
- Go to EQ.
The EQ screen has five sliders, one for each band. It also shows a preset name, which reads Standard when nothing is changed, and a Reset link.
The five bands
Each band can be set from −16 dB to +5 dB. The bands are centered on these frequencies:
- 47 Hz: the deepest bass. This band starts at +4 dB, which matches the High bass level.
- 188 Hz: starts at 0 dB.
- 750 Hz: starts at 0 dB.
- 3 kHz: starts at 0 dB.
- 12 kHz: the highest band. It starts at 0 dB.
Adjust the sound
- Play some music you know well.
- Open EQ and move a slider up to hear more of that band, or down to hear less.
- Make small changes and listen after each one.
- Go back to the sliders any time to adjust again.
Bass
For a quick change, you do not need the EQ. Set the bass to Low, Medium or High with the Bass button on the speaker, or in the app under Sound Settings > Bass. See Control Bar buttons. If you have set a custom bass level in EQ, Sound Settings shows a note that changing Bass there overrides your current EQ settings, with a link back to EQ.
Stereo Enhancement
Stereo Enhancement is in Sound Settings, not EQ. It adjusts the apparent separation between the left and right channels. See Speaker settings in the Brane Audio app.
Reset the EQ
You can reset it in either of two ways:
- In the app, open EQ and tap Reset.
- On the speaker, hold the Bass button for 5 seconds. The speaker says “EQ reset.” On firmware 2.1 and later this returns the bass to High. On earlier firmware it returns the EQ to flat, which is Medium bass.
If you have changed the EQ in the app, the speaker announces “Custom EQ” at power-on to remind you.
If the sound is not what you expected
- If the bass level seems off, press the Bass button on the speaker to hear the level, then press again to change it.
- If you are not sure what you changed, reset the EQ and start again.
