Your Brane X has four lights on the front, plus a red microphone light on top. This guide lists each light from left to right. For an animated version, see the light legend in the Brane X guide.

Light 1: Bluetooth

  • Pulsing blue: Bluetooth pairing mode is on.
  • Solid blue: a device is connected over Bluetooth.
  • Quick white flash: a setting you changed in the Brane Audio app was applied.
  • Solid yellow: a firmware update is in progress.
  • Solid yellow-orange: a factory reset is in progress.
  • Solid green: Soundbar Mode (previously called AUX Passthrough) is on and the speaker is receiving a wired signal. If the mode is on and the light is not green, no signal is arriving on the AUX input.
  • Solid purple: the buttons are disabled, which happens when the microphone button is held for more than 10 seconds (firmware 2.1 and later). Turn the speaker off and on to restore them.

Light 2: Alexa

  • Solid cyan: Alexa is listening.
  • Cyan and blue, fast: Alexa is thinking.
  • Cyan and blue, slow: Alexa is responding. Press the Alexa button, or say “Alexa, stop,” to interrupt.
  • Pulsing yellow: you have a new notification. Say “Alexa, what did I miss?”
  • Two cyan pulses, two blue pulses, repeating: a timer or alarm is sounding. Press the Alexa button or say “Alexa, stop.”
  • One purple pulse after Alexa finishes: Do Not Disturb is on.
  • Red, three pulses: something went wrong. Alexa is not set up, the speaker cannot reach the Alexa service (check your internet), or you pressed the Alexa button while the microphones are muted.

Light 3: Network

  • Pulsing white: Wi-Fi setup mode is on and the speaker is ready to be added.
  • Solid yellow: the speaker is joining a Wi-Fi network.
  • Solid white: the speaker is connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Solid purple: the speaker is not connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Solid red for 5 seconds: the speaker could not connect to Wi-Fi. The light then goes back to showing the current Wi-Fi state.

Light 4: Charging

  • Off: the battery is full, or the speaker is not plugged in.
  • Solid orange: the battery is charging.
  • Blinking orange (the light fades off and on): the speaker is waiting to charge, for example while the battery cools down. It turns solid orange when charging starts.

The charging light works whenever the speaker has wall power, even if the speaker is off.

Microphone light (top)

  • Red: the microphones are off.
  • Off: the microphones are on.

While the speaker starts up

On firmware 2.1 and later, the first three lights on the front glow white while the speaker starts. On older firmware, only the network light shows as white during bootup. After start-up the lights may go dark for under a second before they show their normal state. If the white start-up lights never go away, hold the power button for 10 seconds to force the speaker off, then turn it on again.

Light brightness

Open your speaker in the Brane Audio app and go to LED Brightness and use the Brightness slider to set how bright the front lights are. The brighter levels dim to the lowest level after about eight seconds, and brighten again when something changes.

Red light after an update

A red light for five seconds after an update attempt means the update failed. See Update your speaker’s firmware.
