AirPlay 2 lets you send audio from an Apple device to your Brane X over Wi-Fi. This article covers what you need, how to play, how groups and passwords work, and what to try if the speaker does not show up.

What you need

  • A Brane X that is connected to Wi-Fi. See Connect to Wi-Fi.
  • An Apple device on the same Wi-Fi network as the speaker.

AirPlay does not work over Bluetooth alone. If you are away from home, use Bluetooth instead.

Play to your Brane X

  1. Make sure the speaker is on and its Wi-Fi light is solid white.
  2. Start playing in your music player or another app.
  3. Tap the AirPlay icon.
  4. Select your Brane X as the output.

Your Apple device keeps playing to the speaker until you pick a different output or another source takes over. See How audio sources take turns.

Play to a group

If your speakers are in a group, choose the group by its name, not a speaker name. You connect once and every speaker in the group plays. Only one speaker in the group advertises itself for AirPlay, and which one can change, so you never need to know which. See Play across multiple speakers.

A Brane stereo pair shows up on an Apple TV as one AirPlay speaker under the group name, and it can be the Apple TV’s default audio output. See Set up a stereo pair with your TV.

Play on other AirPlay 2 speakers too

Apple users can select the Brane X and other AirPlay 2-compatible speakers at the same time to play the same audio on all of them. For example, you can include AirPlay 2-compatible Sonos speakers this way. Brane X does not connect to the Sonos app or become part of a Sonos system.

Use AirPlay with your TV

An Apple TV 4K on the same Wi-Fi network can send its sound to your Brane X over AirPlay. See Connect Brane X to your TV.

The AirPlay password

When you add the speaker through Apple’s setup or the Home app, Apple lets you set a password. Anyone who then tries to play to the speaker over AirPlay is asked for it. To remove the password, remove the speaker from the Home app, or factory reset the speaker.

If the speaker does not show up

  • Check that the speaker is on Wi-Fi and the light is solid white, and that your Apple device is on the same network.
  • If AirPlay setup stalls or cannot find the speaker after about 10 seconds, turn airplane mode on and off again on your iPhone and try again.
  • If the app or your device does not find the speaker during first setup, see Fix speaker discovery during setup.
  • If the sound stops because another source started, that is by design: the last wireless source to start wins.

For the light colors, see What the lights mean. For all the ways to connect, see the connecting section of the Brane X guide.
