Stream with Spotify Connect and Amazon Music

Updated Nov 1, 2026

In this article

Brane X plays Spotify through Spotify Connect, and Amazon Music through Alexa Built-in. This article shows how to use each one, how they work in a group and what to check if they do not play.

Spotify Connect

With Spotify Connect, your phone, tablet or computer works as a remote control and the speaker streams the music itself over Wi-Fi.

What you need

  • A Brane X that is connected to Wi-Fi. See Connect to Wi-Fi.
  • The Spotify app on a phone, tablet or computer on the same Wi-Fi network as the speaker.

Steps

  1. Make sure the speaker is on and its Wi-Fi light is solid white.
  2. Open Spotify on your phone, tablet or computer and start playing something.
  3. Open the Connect devices menu in Spotify.
  4. Select your Brane X.

For Spotify’s own instructions, visit spotify.com/connect. In the Brane Audio app, the Streaming menu in your speaker’s settings points you to Spotify.

Amazon Music

Amazon Music plays through Alexa. You ask the speaker for music by voice, so Alexa needs to be set up first.

  1. Set up Alexa in the Brane Audio app. Open your speaker, go to Voice Assistant and follow the prompts. See Set up Alexa.
  2. Check that the microphones are on. A red light on top means they are muted.
  3. Say “Alexa,” then ask for what you want from Amazon Music. Or press the Alexa button first and then speak.

Alexa needs the speaker on Wi-Fi. Other services you can ask Alexa for include Audible, Kindle Books, Deezer, iHeartRadio, Pandora, SiriusXM and TuneIn.

Other music services

TIDAL Connect is not currently supported. You can still play TIDAL from your phone over Bluetooth or AirPlay 2. Apple Music does not play through Alexa on Brane X, but you can play it over Bluetooth or AirPlay. See Use AirPlay 2 and Connect over Bluetooth.

Play to a group

In Spotify, choose the group by its name, not a speaker name. One speaker in the group advertises it, and which speaker that is can change. Alexa can start from any speaker in the group. See Play across multiple speakers.

If it does not play

  • Check that the speaker is on Wi-Fi and that your phone or computer is on the same network.
  • Spotify, AirPlay, Bluetooth, Alexa and UPnP share one priority level, and the last one to start wins. If another source started, it took over. See How audio sources take turns.
  • If Alexa pulses red three times, Alexa is not set up, the speaker has no internet connection, or the microphones are muted.
  • A wired AUX source never interrupts these. Wireless sources always outrank AUX.

For the light colors, see What the lights mean.
