FAQ

How big is the Brane X?

The speaker is 6.1 inches high, 9.3 inches wide and 7 inches deep (155 x 237 x 177 mm).

What is the Brane X frequency range?

The Brane X has a frequency range of 27.1 Hz to 20 kHz, delivering sound from deep sub-bass through the upper range of human hearing. Its patented Repel-Attract Driver (RAD) subwoofer handles frequencies from 27.1 to 150 Hz, while two midrange drivers cover 150 Hz to 3 kHz and two tweeters reproduce frequencies from 3 kHz to 20 kHz.

What drivers are in the Brane X?

  • One Repel-Attract Driver (RAD) for bass, 6.5 x 9 inches.
  • Two 2.5 inch (63 mm) midrange cones.
  • Two 0.79 inch (20 mm) silk dome tweeters.

How powerful is the Brane X?

The Brane X delivers over 200 watts of combined amplifier output through four Class-D digital amplifiers, powering its built-in RAD subwoofer, two midrange drivers, and two tweeters.

What is the volume range of the Brane X?

Volume runs from 0 dB at maximum down to -60 dB. Turning it below -60 dB silences the speaker. Each press of a volume button changes it by 1 dB. Holding a button changes it faster, 5 dB at a time.

The volume you set is kept across power cycles. The speaker never starts up silent. A new speaker starts at -40 dB.

In Soundbar Mode the volume is set at your TV or source instead, and Max Volume under Input Options sets the ceiling. See What is Max Volume in Soundbar Mode?

Does the Brane X have an equalizer (EQ)?

Yes, the Brane X has a customizable five-band equalizer (EQ) in the Brane Audio app, allowing you to adjust bass, midrange, and treble to suit your music and listening preferences. To access the EQ, select your Brane X in the app and go to EQ, where each frequency band can be adjusted from -16 dB to +5 dB.

Which audio formats does the Brane X play?

  • AirPlay: AAC-LC and ALAC (lossless)
  • Spotify Connect: Vorbis
  • UPnP: AAC-LC, FLAC (lossless), MP3, Opus and Vorbis
  • Alexa: AAC-LC, FLAC, MP3 and Opus
  • Bluetooth: SBC, AAC-LC, aptX and aptX HD

The AUX input takes a 3.5mm analog signal, which the speaker converts to digital at 24-bit.

Which Bluetooth version and codecs does the Brane X support?

The Brane X supports Bluetooth 5.1 with SBC, AAC-LC, aptX and aptX HD. aptX and aptX HD arrived with firmware 2.0. It streams over A2DP and takes volume control from your device (AVRCP).

It supports classic Bluetooth (BR/EDR) and does not support Bluetooth Low Energy audio.

Is the Brane X ported?

No, Brane X is not a ported speaker. Its sealed enclosure uses Brane Audio’s Repel-Attract Driver technology instead of a conventional bass-reflex port to produce deep sub-bass.
